And finally today

Danny O is going to veto the no-smoking bill because of a state law that will override the county law that smoking will be prohibited in casinos. The veto may actually stand because some of the council members aren’t pleased with the exemption either.

I totally agree that if you can’t smoke in a restaurant or bar, you shouldn’t be allowed to smoke in a casino.

The state is obviously being blinded by those big dollar signs in their eyeballs and also the state apparently wants all the gamblers and smokers to huddle in one place, get cancer and die.

Am I the only who thinks there are MUCH larger issues the county & state legislators should be tackling?

I’m a non-smoker & all, but please folks, they really need to start earning all of the tax payer funded benefits soon….the human race has managed to survive a few thousand years or so withoutsmoking bans.

It is an easy issue to handle because a majority of people are going to turn around and say that smoking is bad so ban it, then all the legislators look like heros. If they tried to tackle something controversial like property tax reform or assessments people will be arguing too much.

Cityworker’s completely right. This one had “PR move” written all over it.

PR move? Perhaps it was, but at least the county council had the decency to make me think they gave a rat’s ass about people’s health. The state senate basically gave us the finger and told us casino money is more important. At least pretend to care about the people you serve. Sheesh.
