You guys! Did you hear about the dude that jumped into the Mon yesterday after his dog jumped in after some birds?

Unfortunately, the guy drowned even though his brother-in-law and a woman passing by jumped in to try to save him.

Some things:

1. The story on one of the radio news snippets this morning as I drove in (I can’t remember if I had it on Y108, Froggy (Shut. Up.) or 100.7 (yo!) went something like this:

“A man drowned yesterday after he dove into the Mon River to save his dog. The dog is doing fine.” (cut to commercial)

Swear to God. That’s cold.

2. KDKA.com has a bit more info, namely this:

Meanwhile, the woman who ran into the water to help was repeatedly told by police she couldn’t go back to the accident scene.

Still, she refused and police say they had no other choice but to arrest her for assaulting an officer and disorderly conduct.

WTF? I realize she probably suddenly felt an emotional connection to a man she swam in to try to save, but when the police tell you to back the hell up from someone you don’t even know while trained professionals process the scene … my God, back the hell up.

There’s even video of her kicking the cop!

Props to her for being brave and trying to be a hero because jumping into the Mon is no sissy feat, but again … listen to the cops and you won’t find your ass in handcuffs or on the business end of a pepper spray canister.

Crazy. Batshit.

Update: The Trib says she was a female companion, so maybe not so batshit.
