I hate to say this…I got sick two weeks ago and it did weird shit to me for a week. And even now I can’t talk much without weakening my voice. I hope it doesn’t hang on you the way it has on me.

Never got sick like that in summer before.

Please tell me you were watching the Yankees and the Bucs of Suck last night and caught a glimpse of our Boy-Mayor Lukey sitting in the first row, just over the rotating advertisement screen, to the left of the catcher, taking in the 10 to nothing loss?

I see the next city council meeting topic: Who paid for his tickets? Was Luke on city time? Where was the body guard? Did he just show up and sit there, saying “I am the mayor. I do what I want and sit where I want.” Do you think he crashed the Yanks locker room after?

I wouldn’t have even seen the sight would my brother not have called to tell me about it. (I share your resentment for the loosing team, but I can’t even stomach to watch the Bucs let alone baseball in general.)

PG - I feel your pain. Got sick 2 weeks ago and STILL trying to get it all out of my system. Chicken noodle soup and tea are my recommendations. Oh and an ice pack for the headache - it works wonders!

Very distracting, that. If Council investigates anything, it should be whether he has ever attended a sporting event at which the Pittsburgh team won.

There are two statues in a park; one of a nude man and one of a nude

woman. They had been facing each other across a pathway for a hundred

years, when one day an angel comes down from the sky and, with a

    single

gesture, brings the two to life.

The angel tells them, ‘As a reward for being so patient through a

hundred blazing summers and dismal winters, you have been given life

    for

thirty minutes to do what you’ve wished to do the most.’

He looks at h e r, she looks at him, and they go running behind the

    shrubbery.

The angel waits patiently as the bushes rustle and giggling ensues.

After fifteen minutes, the two return, out of breath and laughing.

The angel tells them, ‘Um, you have fifteen minutes left, would you care

    to d o it again?’

    He asks her ‘Shall we?’

She eagerly replies, ‘Oh, yes, let’s! But let’s change positions.

This time, I’ll hold the pigeon down and you sh!t on its head.’

    Magnesium citrate:

Magnesium citrate is a chemical agent used medicinally as a saline laxative and to empty the bowel prior to a surgery or colonoscopy. It is available over the counter, both as a generic brand or under the brand name Citromag or Citroma. It is also used as a magnesium supplement in pills. The magnesium content of magnesium citrate corresponds to about 11%.

Magnesium citrate works by attracting water through the tissues by a process known as osmosis. Once in the intestine, it can attract enough water into the intestine to induce defecation. The additional water also helps to create more feces, which naturally stimulates bowel motility. This means it can also be used to treat rectal and colon problems. Magnesium citrate functions best on an empty stomach, and should always be followed with a full (eight ounce) glass of water or juice to help the magnesium citrate absorb properly and help prevent any complications. Magnesium citrate is generally not a harmful substance, but care should be taken to consult with a health professional if any adverse health problems are suspected or felt.

Thanks, Ravishing Rick, for your tour of PittGirl’s bowels. But she has a garden variety cold. Here’s what she needs:

    two shots whiskey, preferably Bushmill’s
    three shots lemon juice
    two tablespoons sugar
mix well in a tumbler and top with boiling water

drop in orange peel and fresh cloves if you have ‘em

Drink entire contents over the next five to ten minutes.

This is what my great uncle Joe Donnelly used to do when my grandmother had to go to work and the kids were all home sick with colds. Then he’d line ‘em up on the couch according to size and they’d be singing away when my grandmother got home. Grannie would say, “Oh, no, Joe — you got them drunk again!” and Joe would reply, in a brogue as thick as bog, “They’ll bee foin, garrrl! They’re foin!”

Take my uncle Joe’s advice, PittGarrl, and you’ll be just foin.

I was THIS CLOSE to asking my father to make me a Hot Toddy, because I too believe strong liquor kills the cold and the flu.

Instead, I big-girled it, didn’t call him, and drank tequila straight.

I’m feeling better, to tell the truth.

I might try that recipe regardless, Dennis. Just to be safe.
